There is much more potential than just a strike. But
that is first what must be mastered, for when push comes to shove ‘You might
would strike”.
Still there are other possibilities to be developed.
Among its many uses are the following potentials.
1. Striking with the first
two knuckles straight on.
2.Striking with the ridge of
the first two knuckles straight on.
3,Striking with the base of
the fist as a bammer-fist.
4.Striking with the back of
the first two knuckles vertically.
5. Striking with the back of
the first two knuckles horizontally.
6.Striking with the thumb
from the side motion of the fist.
7. Striking in with the
inward motion of the thumb, using the thumb as a straight on striking
service.
8. Striking (rapping) with
the fore-knuckles of the fist inward.
9. Striking with each individual
knuckle of the fist for different effects.
10. Striking with each knuckle
of the fore-knuckles for different effect.
11. The use of the formation
of the fist to grab the opponents collar to roll the thumb into their neck
12. The use of the formation
of the fist to grab the opponents uniform.
13. Use of the formation of
the fist to grasp the opponents wrist.
There is no question regular training on the Makiwara, when possible, becomes a major force enhancer.
Another possibility becomes the
use of knuckle pushups. Using them tighten those first two knuckles, as
well as develop the wrist to support the strikes.
Having a training program sufficiently advanced to
develop each of these potentials is among the challenges Isshinryu instruction
offers.
Good teaching Hanshi.
