Around the world Karate means many different things in different places. These youth competition videos are showing the performance standards used on Okinawa in kata competition.
Certainly the youth are well schooled in the manner of these competitions. They are skilled and very capable to say the least.
However for me. this pattern of movement in kata competition, which I believe first was developed in Japan, does not show what I personally believe kata should be. To me it is Start then Stop and Execute a technique, then start and stop again and execute another technique. And then over and over till the form is finished.
Individuals trained in such a manner, likely where all other students work to the same standard.
Unfortunately I see such training ignores the potential of use of the kata's movements to their fullest.
Now I do not say this is wrong, it just is such training does not hold my interest.
And there are other methods of tournament training, for different locations around the world. In most cases I see other potentials being set aside for those competition standards.
It does make for an interesting world.
