Take The Next Step

Regarding use of the lower body in applications, I often find it useful to use a principle I label as “Take The Next Step”.

Speaking generically if a technique segment uses a lock or percussive technique by using the next step of a kata, to sweep/reap/step forward to control their foot, acts as a force multiplier causing a takedown.

It is fine if your power is so destructive that your strike concludes your opponent, but often when they are stronger this opens them up and the stepping technique puts them down.

Nothing is right in all circumstances but this is a powerful tool. A little outside of the box thinking allows you to define when a technique is concluded. Just “Take The Next Step
