The Black, Red and White Obi

Bushi No Te Isshinryu

The concept of the black, red and white obi came from a friend in a different tradition.

When in normal class it is work only with the black side outside, making it almost indistinguishable from a normal black belt.

The Senior instructor wears the red stripe on top. Other instructors wear the white side on top. Only for formal occasions are the colored stripes worn outside. From that originating tradition it does not designate rank, just that one is an instructor.

When normally worn with the stripes outside the obi does not signify rank, only the burden that instructor carries
