Okinawa 1971 – with Charles Murray

But perhaps I'll give you a little glimpse.  He was maybe 17 or 18, a very young USAF airman and a brand new shodan in 1971, when he arrived on Okinawa and took a taxi to Agena.  While he would later be stationed on one of the off shore islands, he first wanted to visit the dojo.  When he did get there what he found was what looked like a garage surrounded with a high wall and broken bottles around its top.

Apparently Master Shimabuku didn't want neighborhood kids climbing up and looking in.  While the dojo was approximate the size of a garage, there was a small section (approximately the size of a large bathroom) off the side of the dojo where the Master and his wife lived.  That room was essentially unfurnished (they sat on the floor) and they had one faucet for their water.
