To offer a counterpoint I might add what the late Sherman Harrill considered reasonable.
With correct conditioning and with decades of dedicated makiwara conditioning of the hand and the foot, he used to contend the only necessary pressure point began at the top of the head and continued down to the sole of the foot. Then when delivering a strike anywhere should conclude any attack by the opponent...that does not mean some point can create a greater effect, especially for the less conditioned, rather his point was to train beyond those abilities to become something else, The ultimate karate-ka.
