The development of the term McDojo. Decade ago, Fred Villari broke from his kenpo (kempo) instructors in Rhode Island and began his chain of studios. In Black Belt magazine he explained that he wanted to imitate the success of McDonalds. Which was making a lot of money. He described that he planned to have dojos everyplace.
He did not explain how he would do this. Then over the years everyone saw how it was happening. Thus, using his marketing explanation, the term McDojo was coming into use. I never met him, and while I have incidental stories I have more to do that dwell on that.
