A story about Shorin-ryu

I am reminded of a story, names being dropped.

Back in 1984 I attended a clinic by Shimabukuro Zempo and had chance to talk with him later, it was a nice experience. During our discussion he explained “on Okinawa there were maybe 100 Shorin doju, 30 Goju dojo and 3 Isshin dojo”.

Many years later I shared that with George Dohanue. George practiced Kashiba Juku and had been raised in Japan and on Okinawa. He replied

Victor, what you should know in those 100 Shorin dojo, each one is doing things differently.”

It is a matter of perspective, and I think helps with this post.
