I am reminded of a story, names being
dropped.
Back in 1984 I attended a clinic by
Shimabukuro Zempo and had chance to talk with him later, it was a nice
experience. During our discussion he explained “on
Okinawa there were maybe 100 Shorin doju, 30 Goju dojo and 3 Isshin dojo”.
Many years later I shared that with
George Dohanue. George practiced Kashiba Juku and had been raised in Japan and
on Okinawa. He replied
“Victor, what you should know in those 100 Shorin dojo, each
one is doing things differently.”
It is a matter of perspective, and I
think helps with this post.
