I know most of you won’t understand this.
George Dillman began in Pa in Isshinryu
studying with Harry Smith.
He was a self promoter in the magazines
and an early tournament forms and
weapons champion back then.
He started and then ran two very large
tournaments in Pa each year.
They were very long running.
Back when I was a black belt at one of
those tournaments about 1982,
Don Nagel was there that day.
Don explained that 20 years before he attended a tournament there
and it had been a blood bath.
But today he saw a much better level of karate.
He got up, stopped things and promoted
George Dillman to 6th dan.
I thought this strange as Dillman was
not teaching Ishsinryu at that time,
but I was only a participant.
Within 2 weeks I saw it in the magazine Tommy Kays Small book of Karate,
explaining George had been promoted.
This was prior to the Oyata Kyusho and
Tuite conversion of George.
