Romney Taylor "We learned to pull back our fist on the side, directly under the arm after a strike. However, today when you pull back after a strike, you bring your fist back to your hip (the lower side of your abdomen). This never works during an actual fight." What do you think about this, personally I agree.

Victor Donald Smith I am of a different point of view, there are many uses of hip chambering, including Chinese answers.

David Rogers Victor Donald Smith yes!! Agree 100%. Chambering does a lot of different things, starting with straightening your back and pulling your rear deltoid back. These can be used for all sorts of martial arts applications. Has nothing to do with "blocking" or defense.

Victor Donald Smith A very interesting answer was one time given to me by my friend and instructor in the Chinese arts. Part of the reason the hand was drawn back to hip chamber was to allow it to be there to provide protection for that area. Sort of a static block, not a blocking motion. As some Chinese style attacks were to that area of the side.
