Jim Keenan gifted me after my disabilities developed.
I have been extremely fortunate that among my instructors and friends, many have been skilled in multiple arts. I am not suggesting that makes them better, just that they have added many different dimensions to my studies. Of course, those in one art have also spent decades developing their unique abilities in most interesting ways too. All of them made incredible efforts to live their art(s).
Just before my move to Arizona, one day Jim Keenan paid me a visit. As we were chatting, I commented that my disabilities made most of my kobudo studies quite impossible to perform.
Then Jim made a suggestion that perhaps I just needed to look at those studies a different way. He went far beyond that statement. For he stood up and demonstrated on the opening of the kobudo kata Tokumine No Kun that I could always gain new understanding by performing the kata a different way. One doing the kata without a Bo in my hands.
