Was created by Nagamine Sensei in the mid 1930s to be a simpler kata to train beginners in.
When I worked out an Isshinryu variation
it became Isshinryu Kata Sho.
The techniques (blocks and strikes) were
switched to the way we do Isshinryu.
The name was changed because I could see
the kids in Scranton
Calling this the f***You kata, and I did
not want that to happen.
Today many schools in Okinawa (including Isshinryu
schools) use the Fukyugata Ichi as a demo kata.
The photos of Nagamine’s book follows,
Note they are printed Japanese style, right to left.
