Mike Toomey, Me and Roy Blackwell with my original sai and bo
bought at Asian World in 1977
My
original bo purchased at the old Asian World location up Broad Street in
Philadelphia was a wooden one, a bit crooked on one end. It was made of the
densest wood I have ever seen, almost as if the core was lead.
We
always used it for practice, building up our strength, then two weeks before a
competition switched to our hard wood comp bo, to recondition our handling
skills. Never
changing the forms, just to put more strength behind our movements.
I
bought the bo in 1977, and when I retired left it for the group to continue
with it.
Roy and Mike were my first two Black Belt students.
