This series of blog posts is dedicated to my senior
students, all of
you. You spent the decades working with me allowing me to put this
study of kata application analysis together. This represents what I was seeing
in 2010, now a decade ago. I have worked out a few more answers since then. But
if you have worked and switched them to kata application realized you have a
very powerful tool at your disposal. That of course is your choice.
Many instructors have influenced me developing this
minor understanding.
IMO the goal is to be able to apply this to every
kata technique you have ever studied. Not to select from thousands of answers
to defeat an attack. Rather so you fully understand the underlying principles
behind applying any technique and in conditions extremis you can make any
technique work for you.
Then by continuing to work you keep your mind
engaged as you age. Enabling you to keep wonder alive and truly believe you can
make whatever answer you choose work for you.
