Jifaa - use of the Okinawan Hairpin

Kamisashi (hairpin), 17-18 cent., collection of Naha City

"Kamisashi" means men's hairpin. "Jifaa" means women's one. Both are often confused, but different. This hairpin is a hairpin of sunflower or strawberry and one of the Ueekata class. The part of flower is made of gold.

Hairpin could be used as a weapon.

The opening movements of kusanku kata can be interpreted as extracting a hairpin from your hair and then using it with the movements from the form.
